We just love this recipe! I experimented with several recipes for “fancy-ing up” walnuts, since we gleaned so many this fall, and this is the winner. Its beauty is that it is so very simple–and it tastes great!
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Combine in a bowl: 2 TBSP maple syrup (the real stuff); 2 TBSP brown sugar; and a pinch of salt (I use sea salt). (The recipe gives an option of a pinch of cayenne but we haven’t tried it this way yet.)
Stir in one cup of walnut halves, tossing to coat. Line a cookie sheet with foil or parchment and spread the coated nuts evenly on it. Toast in oven for 12-15 minutes, until golden and bubbling. Watch out: They’re hot! Let cool and enjoy.
I just made up a double batch for us to enjoy tonight while I read aloud to the family.
Thank you to my friend Janet who passed along this recipe from our friend Carlita.
